We take you on a journey back to the time of Paul & Virginie, starting at the Village of Creve Coeur, passing through Long mountain, the foot of Pieter both, pineapple plantations in Les Mariannes to admire the panoramic view of La Nicoliere and the Northern islands before reaching the famous Pamplemousse Botanical Garden, with its giant water lilies and talipot palm trees.

Visit to traditional colonial houses

Enjoy guided tours to authentic colonial houses around the island. Discover the styles and forms introduced by Dutch, French, and British settlers from the seventeenth century onward, mixed with influences from India and East Africa. All this resulted in a unique hybrid architecture of international historic, social, and artistic significance that are unique to the country and inform the historical context of the Indian Ocean and European colonialism. The colonial houses are filled with history; antiques and photos of the period, some also have magnificent gardens surrounded by waterfalls.

Champs de Mars racecourse

A must see on the island the Champs de Mars is one of the oldest race trace in the world which dates as far as the french colonisation of Mauritius. This racecourse was a military training ground until the Mauritius Turf Club was founded in 1812, making it the second-oldest racecourse in the world. The horse racing season usually starts in March and ends in the first weekend of December. Horse racing are usually held on Saturdays or Sundays and the biggest race of all is the Maiden Cup in September. As horse racing is a popular sport in Mauritius a lot of locals are passionate about it and the ambiance and the enthusiasm on race days is surely an amazing experience to be part of.
