VACCINATION CAMPAIGN WILL ALLOW MAURITIUS TO REVIEW PASSENGER ENTRY CONDITIONS

 

January 23, 2021 - The 100,000 doses of “Covishield” vaccine donated by India arrived in Mauritius on Friday evening. For the occasion, a ceremony was organized at SSR National Airport in Plaisance. During his speech, Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth said that the vaccination campaign which will begin will allow the country to review the conditions of entry of passengers and allow the tourism sector to restart.

Pravind Jugnauth said the goal is to vaccinate more than 60% of the population in order to achieve herd immunity in the country.
According to him, we already have the guarantee of vaccinating 20% of the population thanks to the vaccines of the Covax program. He adds that the ministry is in contact with major vaccine manufacturers, Pfizer BioNtech, Astra Zeneca and Johnson & Johnson, among others. He also announced that we are looking to the African Union for vaccines.

The 100,000 doses of “Covishield” vaccine, developed by Oxford-Astra Zeneca and donated by India, will vaccinate 50,000 frontliners. They will receive a first dose and then a second in 28 days.
Present at the airport, the Ambassador of India to Mauritius, K. Nandini Singla, said "hope that the vaccine will make everyone feel safer", adding that this is the beginning of 'a new start.
